# Medicare (PECOS online enrollment)

> How to enroll in EFT/ERA and change your bank account for Medicare (PECOS online enrollment), step by step.

**Portal:** [PECOS (Medicare online enrollment)](https://pecos.cms.hhs.gov) · [About this portal](/reference/payers/pecos)

## Enroll in EFT or update your bank account

These are sequential, each one depends on the last:

1. Confirm you have an active NPI.
2. Create an account in the CMS Identity & Access Management System (I\&A) using "Create Account Now" on the login page.
3. Log in to internet-based PECOS at [https://pecos.cms.hhs.gov](https://pecos.cms.hhs.gov) with your I\&A credentials.
4. Start a new enrollment or select your existing record to change/reactivate, then complete the EFT (CMS-588) section with your bank details.
5. Upload a voided check or bank letter, e-sign, and submit. Each user must use their own ID and password.

## If you are switching banks

Re-run the enrollment above with the new account details. Until the change is
confirmed, payments continue to the old account, keep it open and sweep the
balance until deposits from Medicare (PECOS online enrollment) appear in the new account. See
[Switch banks without missing a payer deposit](/guides/switch-banks) for the
full cutover checklist, and [EFT reassociation](/concepts/eft-reassociation)
for how to keep matching ERAs to deposits during the transition.
